There is Sunshine in My Soul Today

I’m sure you’re all wondering how this year has escaped so quickly, too.

I was at dinner with my boyfriend last night, reminiscing about the past few months and how wonderful they have been.

Days spent holding hands, a life-changing trip to East Africa and nights out on the town showcasing our talent on the dance floor.

What’s even more exciting is that the best is yet to come.

Sunshine, sangria and summer barbecues, my birthday and Christmas! After 12 weeks of intense training, Joel will be graduating as a fireman! My best friend Meighan is getting married to the man of her dreams and in November I’ll be meeting my new cousin Jack for the first time.

I’ve finally signed up for a 6-week bridal make-up course which I’m really excited about. Since making my public pledge a few month’s ago I’ve joined an 8-week boot camp – my final ‘hurrah’ before the festive season takes off.

And last but not least…

I got an internship as a travel writer with an online company called Escape Lounge! Check them out here.

My life is so full of wonderful, delicious happiness!

Welcome, Sasha Lowndes

Yesterday we got a dog! A gorgeous, seven month old black labrador named Sasha.

She is beautiful and kind and a pleasure to have around.

Welcome to the family Sasha Lowndes. We love you already!IMG_1001

Hooray! It’s Friday!

Friday’s are my favourite day of the week. I feel like I can take on anything because by 5:00 I’m free.

I’ve had such an amazing day already. I went for another morning run, got ready for work (packed some wine!) and went to the Farmer’s Markets near my house to buy some freshly baked German bread, strawberries and  a box of delicious portuguese tarts to take to Joel’s place tonight.

The sun is shining and life is good.

And just as I wrote this post – a delivery arrived for me at work! An entire box filled with tea and chocolates from Joel! I told you he’s amazing!

Best day ever!

Magic Pills

This morning I managed to surface before six and go for a run along Warriewood headland thanks to these new magic pills I discovered. They give you instant energy and the ability to shed excess weight in less than a day!

I’m kidding. I hope you didn’t get excited. Surely by now you know they don’t exist.

Like every other human I didn’t want to get out of bed. I felt like I had only just closed my eyes when my alarm went off and I had a million other reasons why I deserved to stay in bed.

But, I made a promise yesterday that I intend to keep. And I love this view…

My Public Pledge

So this year hasn’t quite gone according to plan.

Throughout January I was determined that I would, after seven years, finally stop biting my nails, lose weight, establish an exciting career and find my Perfect Match. It’s now September.

I have however ticked one thing off my list.  In May I met Joel (A.K.A the most amazing man in the whole wide world – sorry ladies).

The rest unfortunately, are yet to be crossed off.  And since this year is almost over, I figure it’s now or never.

I made a commitment to myself this year to go after exactly what I want in life. This is my public pledge to do just that.

Anzac Day

At the moment my biggest concern is that I won’t have enough money to move out by the end of the year. I feel hard done by because I can’t afford a leather jacket I really want and last week I was really stressed about having to ask my boss for time off to go to Africa in August.

Clearly I’ve lost perspective. I think most of us have. But I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing and let me explain why.

On the 25th April, 1915 thousands of young Australian and New Zealand soldiers faced a very different reality to the one we know today – a reality that thankfully most of us will never be able to fully comprehend.

Their objective was to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open up the Dardanelles to the allied navies and ultimately to secure Constantinople (now Istanbul in Turkey).

Their plans were interrupted however by fierce resistance and what had been planned as a bold stroke to knock Turkey out of the war quickly became an eight-month stalemate. By December the allied forces were evacuated having failed in its military objectives.

Over 8,000 Australian soldiers had been killed.

It’s a reality that, on this day in particular, makes worrying about traffic delays and smashed iPhone screens immediately irrelevant.

Yet we shamelessly allow these minor inconveniences to become major dramas in our day simply because there’s not much else to worry about. And I think in many ways that’s what our Anzac Heroes wanted for us.

Because of them we have the capacity to provide for our families, determine our own futures and most importantly, feel safe in our own country. They sacrificed their own lives so that we could live ours.

Which is why it’s so important, on this day in particular, that we honour them by making every effort to remind ourselves that we are truly blessed. All our never-ending ‘first-world problems’ – feeling overwhelmed about our weight or what we’re going to have for dinner or how we’re going to afford to send our children to private schools – need to be redefined. They are not problems at all; instead they are a wonderful gift. And one that cost thousands of young Australian lives. It is the greatest gift of all. Freedom.

Now, what on earth am I going to wear today? How lucky I am to have the choice!

Lest we forget.
